A Child's HeartI am coming to realize how delicate our children's hearts truly are. We have a four year old daughter who cries at just about anything. This makes her a truly compassionate person. She cannot stand to see her sisters or friends in pain. It usually causes her just about as much pain as them. I have seven younger brothers and sisters. Five of them are adopted. When I was younger, I struggled to accept that having them in our family was God's will for my life. They were a constant inconvenience, but God knew if I did not learn to give to others at a young age I would have probably been consumed by my selfish desires. Recently, one of my sisters has gone looking for her past. She was placed in our home through foster care when she was four. We were not allowed to adopt her until she was eight. We did not know it at the time, but that created so much doubt in her of who she was and her place in life. This is why she went looking for the past. It has been a hard road for all of us to take with her. Her past is not pretty. There were reasons that God chose to put her in a new family. She has actually admitted this recently to my mom. We know though that the journey has just begun. For her to full grasp who she is, there will be more to walk out. I found an article today written by Mark Schultz, sing/songwriter. If you have not heard his music, you should. The article is in "Chrisianity Today.com". It is part of their Artist Spotlight. He was adopted and he tells of an experience he had with a fan that changed his view on being adopted. I hope you read it and are encouraged. It encouraged me.
